BOOMERANG – Shiraz & Viognier

The practice of blending Shiraz with Viognier (a white wine grape) began because these two grapes grow alongside each other in the Northern Rhone Valley of France, their original home. Rhone winemakers often ferment the grapes together and, under French law, are allowed to blend up to 20 percent Viognier into their red wines. Because Viognier brings an aromatic boost to the wine, this practice has become popular in other countries as well, especially Australia. Viognier is a full bodied wine bursting with floral and fruit aromatics. Australia Shiraz Viognier is stylish yet refined. It is lush with a tapestry of smooth tannins and succulent dried fruits, vanilla and black pepper.
